Brandon Scherrer
Brandon is a general psychologist registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Australian Psychological Society (APS). He grew up in beautiful Western Australia where he completed a Bachelor (Honours) and Master Degree in Psychology.
He is the recipient of the 2018 Australian Psychological Society Prize, awarded as part of his honours research on a novel treatment for Chronic Pain. His Master’s dissertation reviewed the efficacy of non-invasive brain stimulation for Anorexia Nervosa.
Brandon’s style is compassionate and non-judgemental and he enjoys working with children (4+ years), teenagers and adults to help them live their best life. Brandon is curious about the relationship people have with themselves and those around them, and helps clients deepen an understanding of these relationships in the context of earlier life experiences.
He regards the therapeutic relationship as a safe place to allow people to simply be as they are. Brandon is flexible and evidence-based in his approach and listens to his client's needs and preferences to drive meaningful and sustainable change. He draws on Psychodynamic, Object-Relations, Cognitive-Behavioural, Acceptance and Commitment, Motivational, Solution-focused, Mindfulness and Compassion Focused principles.
Brandon's Approach
Brandon has experience working with a range of referrals, including: eating disorders (including FBT Maudsley for Anorexia Nervosa), body image concerns, depression, anxiety, stress, obsessive-compulsive disorder, adjustment, mood, and interpersonal concerns.
Brandon is particularly passionate about challenging society’s unrealistic body ideals and diet culture and advocates the principles of the Health at Every Size movement. He has developed a group therapy program, “My Body, My Narrative” that aims to build body confidence and empower young women to take an active stance against the media’s representation of their bodies.
Outside of work Brandon enjoys live music and spending time outdoors; kayaking, bushwalking, and exploring our beautiful country.
